California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate coding and abstracting of medical records, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will work remotely to assign appropriate ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures accurately
• Ensure timely coding and abstracting in compliance with regulatory requirements and productivity standards
• Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed

Required qualifications

• Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding courses
• Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
• Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
