Job Summary
To support hospital coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and accurate coding in accordance with established productivity and quality standards
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications:
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or similar coding credential
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to coding
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
