Job Summary

To support efficient coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations while working remotely.

Key responsibilities
  • Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
  • Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
  • Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed for accurate coding
Required qualifications
  • Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
  • High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding classes from an accredited program
  • Active certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of coding guidelines, reimbursement methodologies, and current coding classifications
  • Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards for coding and abstracting
