Job Summary
Working remotely on a full-time basis, the California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for various outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
- Organize and prioritize work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completed courses in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding conventions from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent coding credential
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
