Job Summary
To support accurate medical documentation, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, working remotely while ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to accurately identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Verify and abstract data from medical records to meet submission and reporting requirements while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed, ensuring timely and accurate coding completion
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
- Active coding certification such as Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations, including ICD-CM, CPT, and Medicare guidelines
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding classifications
