Job Summary
To support accurate medical documentation, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient information as needed
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or similar credential
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
