Job Summary
To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting diagnoses and procedures from outpatient services, ensuring compliance with established guidelines, while working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding and abstracting of medical records according to regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding courses from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes
- Ability to meet productivity and quality standards established for the position
