California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for various outpatient services, ensuring compliance with relevant coding guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:

• Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
• Ensure timely and compliant coding of records while maintaining accuracy and integrity of data abstracted
• Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed

Required qualifications:

• Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding coursework from an accredited program
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent coding credential
• Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and current coding conventions
• Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards for coding and abstracting
