California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support a growing healthcare team, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely.

Key responsibilities:

• Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
• Ensure timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed

Required qualifications:

• Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
• Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to hospital outpatient services
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
