Job Summary

Working remotely, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with relevant coding guidelines and regulations.

Key responsibilities:
  • Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
  • Ensure timely and compliant coding by meeting established productivity and quality standards
  • Interact with physicians to clarify documentation and verify data accuracy prior to coding completion
Required qualifications:
  • Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
  • High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding courses from an accredited program
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to coding
  • Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
