California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate medical documentation, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
• Ensure timely and compliant coding by meeting established productivity and quality standards
• Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed

Required qualifications

• Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding coursework from an accredited program
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent coding credential
• Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to outpatient services
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
