Job Summary
Under direct supervision, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses, conditions, and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code appropriate diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records to meet established productivity and quality standards
- Interact with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical terminology and coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or similar credential
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
