Job Summary
To support the coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS
- Ensures timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
- Interacts with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information for accurate documentation
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Health Information Technician, or Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and coding methodologies
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
