Job Summary
To support accurate coding practices, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Ensures timely coding and abstraction of records while meeting established productivity and quality standards
- Interacts with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information
Required qualifications
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies
- Ability to maintain coding credentials and complete required Continuing Education units
