Job Summary
To support accurate medical coding processes, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations while working remotely.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Ensures timely and compliant coding by organizing work assignments and meeting established productivity and quality standards
- Interacts with physicians to clarify documentation and verify the accuracy of coded data prior to submission
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding coursework from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Health Information Technician, or Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology to interpret health records
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
