California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To ensure accurate coding and abstracting of inpatient cases, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will work remotely, focusing on coding diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS while adhering to established guidelines and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Reviews medical records to identify and code appropriate diagnoses and procedures
• Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to meet coding and abstracting productivity and quality standards
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information accurately

Required qualifications

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Certified Coding Specialist OR Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator certification
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes relevant to inpatient services
