Job Summary

To support coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:
  • Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
  • Ensures timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records according to regulatory requirements and organizational guidelines
  • Interacts with physicians to clarify diagnostic and procedural information, maintaining the integrity and accuracy of coded data
Required qualifications:
  • Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
  • High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding convention classes from an accredited program
  • Certified Coding Specialist OR Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator certification
  • Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes relevant to inpatient coding
