Job Summary
Working full-time in a remote capacity, the California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, utilizing ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures accurately
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to meet coding productivity and quality standards
- Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information
Required qualifications
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Health Information Technician, or Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of coding methodologies and guidelines
- Ability to communicate effectively with physicians regarding coding clarifications
