California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support the coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures for coding
• Codes all appropriate diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
• Ensures timely data completion by meeting established productivity and quality standards for coding and abstracting

Required qualifications

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding courses
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding conventions
• Ability to communicate effectively with physicians regarding coding and documentation clarification
