California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To ensure accurate coding and abstracting of inpatient cases, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will review medical records, assign appropriate codes using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS, and maintain compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures for coding
• Codes diagnoses and procedures using various coding classification systems and ensures compliance with regulatory standards
• Interacts with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information for accurate coding

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of computer systems and coding methodologies
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
