California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will code and abstract inpatient cases, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:

• Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
• Organize and prioritize work assignments to meet coding productivity and quality standards
• Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information for accurate coding

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
