California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will manage the coding and abstracting of inpatient cases, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
• Ensures timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to established productivity and quality standards
• Interacts with physicians to clarify patient information and ensure accurate documentation of diagnoses and procedures

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical terminology and coding classes from an accredited program
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding conventions
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
