Job Summary
To support a growing healthcare team, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, utilizing various coding systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, and will work remotely from authorized locations in Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Ensures timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records while meeting established productivity and quality standards
- Interacts with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information for accurate documentation
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and coding methodologies
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
