California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, utilizing ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical record documentation to accurately identify and code diagnoses and procedures
• Ensures timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to established productivity and quality standards
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information effectively

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of coding guidelines, reimbursement methodologies, and medical terminology
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
