California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate medical documentation, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures for coding
• Codes all appropriate diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information

Required qualifications

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding conventions
• Certified Coding Specialist OR Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator certification
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
• Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes
