California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support the coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:

• Codes and abstracts diagnoses and procedures from medical records using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
• Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information accurately

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
