Job Summary
To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient cases using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Coding and abstracting medical records to identify diagnoses and procedures for inpatient cases
- Ensuring timely and compliant coding in accordance with established productivity and quality standards
- Interacting with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information for accurate documentation
Required qualifications
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding conventions classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
- Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes related to inpatient coding
