Job Summary
To support the coding operations of a hospital, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Ensures timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records while meeting established productivity and quality standards
- Interacts with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information, ensuring accurate documentation
Required qualifications
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
- Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding compliance
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
