California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support hospital operations, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and standards.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures
• Ensures timely and compliant coding by meeting established productivity and quality standards
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes
• Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes
• Ability to communicate effectively with physicians regarding coding and documentation
