Job Summary
To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient cases, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines, and interacting with physicians to clarify patient information, all while working remotely.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to accurately code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Interacts with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding classes from an accredited program
- Certified Coding Specialist OR Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator certification
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes relevant to inpatient coding
