California Licensed Inpatient Coder
Job Summary
To ensure accurate coding and abstracting of inpatient cases, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will review medical record documentation, assign appropriate codes using various coding systems, and interact with physicians to clarify diagnostic information, all while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards in a remote work environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS
- Organizes and prioritizes coding assignments to meet productivity and quality standards
- Ensures data accuracy and compliance with guidelines from TJC, OSHPD, and CMS before submission
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of coding conventions and reimbursement methodologies
- Ability to communicate effectively with physicians regarding diagnostic and procedural information
