California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support the coding operations at a healthcare facility, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
• Organizes and prioritizes coding assignments to meet productivity and quality standards
• Interacts with physicians to clarify documentation and ensure accurate coding and data integrity

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of coding conventions and reimbursement methodologies
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
