California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, all performed remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures for coding
• Codes diagnoses and procedures in accordance with established guidelines and ensures timely data completion
• Interacts with physicians to clarify patient information and maintains confidentiality of patient records

Required qualifications

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes
• Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding conventions
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
