California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate medical coding processes, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will code and abstract inpatient cases and services using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS, while working remotely and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures accurately
• Ensures timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records while meeting established productivity and quality standards
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding conventions from an accredited program
• Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
