Job Summary
To support the coding operations at a healthcare facility, a full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with relevant coding guidelines and standards while working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records
- Interacts with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information, ensuring accuracy in coding and data submission
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and coding methodologies
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
