California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will code and abstract inpatient cases and services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
• Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Certified Coding Specialist OR Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator certification
• Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
