Job Summary
To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will code and abstract inpatient cases, utilizing ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, all performed remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures
- Ensures timely and compliant coding and abstracting of inpatient records according to established productivity and quality standards
- Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information accurately
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding conventions from an accredited program
- Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding compliance guidelines
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
