Job Summary
To support accurate coding practices, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient cases, ensuring compliance with regulations, and interacting with physicians to clarify diagnostic information while working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Interacts with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of coded data
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding convention courses from an accredited program
- Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
- Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes related to inpatient coding
