Job Summary
Working full-time in a remote capacity, the California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, utilizing ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures accurately
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding of records
- Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding conventions from an accredited program
- Certified Coding Specialist OR Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator certification
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
- Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes relevant to inpatient coding
