California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient cases using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures in compliance with regulatory guidelines
• Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and accurate coding and abstracting
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
