Job Summary
To support accurate patient data management, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines, and interacting with physicians to clarify documentation, all while working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Ensures timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records, meeting established productivity and quality standards
- Interacts with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding courses from an accredited program
- Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
