Job Summary
To support the coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases, including diagnoses and procedures, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines, working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Maintains coding accuracy and integrity, ensuring timely completion of coding and abstracting tasks in accordance with established productivity and quality standards
- Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information accurately
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding courses from an accredited program
- Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding conventions
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
