California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will code and abstract inpatient cases, including diagnoses and procedures, while ensuring compliance with coding regulations and guidelines, working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities

• Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
• Ensures timely and compliant coding and abstracting of inpatient records in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information

Required qualifications

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Certification as a Coding Specialist or Registered Health Information Technician/Administrator
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes relevant to inpatient coding
