Job Summary
Working full-time during daytime hours, the California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations while working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records
- Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information accurately
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
- Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes related to inpatient services
