Job Summary
To ensure accurate coding and abstraction of inpatient cases, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will work remotely, focusing on coding diagnoses and procedures from medical records using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while adhering to regulatory guidelines.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures accurately
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information effectively
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist or Registered Health Information Technician/Administrator
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
- Ability to maintain coding credentials and complete required Continuing Education units
