Job Summary
Working remotely in a full-time capacity, the California Licensed Inpatient Coder will be responsible for accurately coding and abstracting inpatient cases from medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Organizes and prioritizes coding assignments to meet productivity and quality standards while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Interacts with physicians to clarify documentation and ensure accurate coding and sequencing of diagnoses and procedures
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding conventions from an accredited program
- Certification as a Coding Specialist, Health Information Technician, or Health Information Administrator
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and coding methodologies
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
