California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To ensure accurate coding and abstracting of inpatient cases, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will work remotely, coding diagnoses and procedures from medical records using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS while adhering to regulatory guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures accurately
• Organizes and prioritizes work to ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with established guidelines
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information

Required qualifications

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of computer systems and coding methodologies
• Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards for coding
