California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To ensure accurate coding and abstracting of inpatient cases, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will work remotely, assigning codes and modifiers using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS, while adhering to regulatory guidelines and maintaining data integrity.

Key responsibilities:

• Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures accurately
• Organize and prioritize coding assignments to meet productivity and quality standards
• Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding courses
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Health Information Technician, or Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of computer systems and coding conventions
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
