California Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support the coding operations at a healthcare facility, the full-time California Licensed Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, utilizing ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while working remotely.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures
• Ensures timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements and coding guidelines
• Interacts with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding courses from an accredited program
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes related to inpatient coding
