Job Summary
Working remotely in a full-time capacity, the California Licensed Inpatient Coder will manage the accurate coding and abstracting of inpatient cases from medical records, utilizing ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures accurately
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding
- Interacts with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information
Required qualifications:
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding courses from an accredited program
- Certified Coding Specialist OR Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator certification
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding conventions
- Demonstrated ability to understand clinical content of health records for accurate coding
